The community is welcome to enjoy a fun afternoon of music, with the Band performing rousing renditions of Christmas songs everyone knows and loves, such as Oh Holy Night, Sleigh Ride, and The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year, newer favorites like, All I Want for Christmas is You; as well as lesser known traditional songs like Greensleeves and Patapan. All curated by the Band’s knowledgeable fine conductor, who invites the audience to sing-along during one selection.
The band has long been led by Mr. George Bradshaw, recently retired Dover High School Director of Bands and Fine Arts Department Chair, now helping develop future music directors with Messiah University. A graduate of Eastern York High School, he obtained his Bachelor's of Music in Music Education Degree from Mansfield University where he studied trumpet under Dr. Michael Galloway and wind conducting under Mr. Donald Stanley. In 2002 Mr. Bradshaw obtained a Master's in Music Education from Duquesne University.
The concert is hosted by Faith United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Schmidt; Kreutz Creek Presbyterian Church and Trinity United Church of Christ, both led by Rev. Kelly Shiflett; St James Lutheran Church, pastored by Rev. Paul Frank, and ValleyView Alliance Church, whose Pastor, Rev. Lee Nanfelt plays trumpet in the Twin Rose Community Band.
Twin Rose has a long history in York County, beginning with its founding in Long Level by veterans of the Civil War. The band has gone through many names since its founding,f rom its original name of the Long Level the Long Level Silver Cornet Band, to the Long Level Band, and then to the VFW band when the band moved across the river to Columbia in 1999. When the band moved back to Wrightsville in 2014, they changed their name to the Twin Rose Community band to honor both of counties where they perform.
The Twin Rose Community Band is also playing Christmas concerts in Columbia, York, and Wrightsville. The Band welcomes new members who volunteer for the joy of playing together. They rehearse on Sunday nights at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wrightsville. FMI please come and talk to a band member or see its Facebook Page.
A Twin Rose Community Band Christmas Concert and community dessert sponsored by Hallam churches will be held on Sunday, December 7, at 2:00 PM at ValleyView Alliance Church at 200 Alliance Drive behind the former Fulton Bank at 200 Alliance Avenue in Hellam. Following the concert, a freewill offering will be taken for the band to purchase future concert music. Guests are also welcome to stay and enjoy some refreshments after the concert ends, with desserts provided by area churches.
